Brick Red: This reminds me of a fire house, with all the beautiful bricks setting off the power inside -- it's that great color of deep red with a tinge of orange which makes it a great year round color. Approved for use in cosmetics, including lip products. While this is a non-bleeding colorant, if you add too much to your soap it can migrate into other colors in the soap design or stain washcloths. We recommend starting out at 1/16th to 1/8th teaspoon per pound for melt & pour soaps. For cold process, add 1 teaspoon of oxide to 1 tablespoon of a carrier oil like Sweet Almond or Olive Oil and mix well using a mini mixer. To create the color in the sample of cold process soap above, we used 1.5 teaspoons of colorant (about 0.15 oz before dispersing) in 1 pound of soap.

For more information on oxides in soap, check out this blog post.

Great Red Color for CP!'s all in how you use it. I have used this many times now and learned how NOT to use too much. Read BB's instructions and cautions. It reminds us to cut back on the amount. They say to pre-mix a teaspoon into a tablespoon of oil. Then add a bit at a time to your soap until you like the result. I learned to follow that advice myself and have no problems. It is a good thing that a little goes a long way. That means more color....less money spent! I am buying the 16oz size while it is on sale. I don't want to run out.

Looks great in photo here but turn out too dark in lipstick.

Hi Nik! Our Brick Red (oxide) Pigment is definitely a deep red! If you don't want it to come across as dark in your lipstick I would recommend using less! I would start with a very small amount and then add more if you want it a bit darker. To test the color as you work take a frozen spoon and tip it in your melted ingredients. The resulting color on the spoon will give a more accurate view of what the color will turn out like. Read more about this process in The Spoon Trick blog post. I will email you personally to discuss this further.

Definitely did not come out the way I have hoped.
The color is truly beautiful and the only reason I rated this a 3...I'd imagine that this would produce a beautiful shade in lip balms. However I tried it in bath bombs and it was THE worst idea. The way it stained my hands alone.. Id be seriously worried about grout and staining tubs. :/ Id possibly use this for CP but pretty nervous about it. Bummer.

Hi Margaret! I'm so glad you think our Brick Red (oxide) Pigment is truly beautiful. We do not recommend using oxide pigments, like this one, in bath bombs. They are a bit too strong as well as being oil soluble which means they would stick to the ring around your bathtub. For bath bomb dyes you may want to check out our La Bomb Colorants. They are dyes specifically formulated for bath bombs. If used within the correct usage amounts in cold process soap the Brick Red will not stain your tub. I will email you personally to discuss this further.

lovely earthy red
I really love this red color. It's really earthy and rich and looks great with a nice dark green. As other reviewers have stated a little goes a LONG way. I would definitely cut your typical colorant amount to around half when using this. I usually use around 2 grams of other pigments per 2lbs of clear m&p and with this I can use around 1 gram or even slightly less in 2lbs and it is super vibrant at that ratio.

Beautiful shade in lipstick.
Easy to use mixed well in carrier oil and blended beautifully with soy wax & coral copper mica for lips. Just the right shade of true red with a slight sheen of coral.
