My husband and I have been married for forty years. We were blessed with six children. My husband was allergic to the "soaps" in the marketplace. I knew this, and I certainly sympathized with him, but what could I do? I had children to raise. My husband worked hard, and rarely complained, except to ask for a backrub to his itching back.
Though I brought in different soaps for him to try-the problem persisted. Finally,in 1998 I gave his dilemna careful thought, and began to study about soap. What I learned was astounding. We were not buying soap, but rather, detergent. No wonder he was suffering! Thus, my first batch of soap was made. It was hot process soap, scented with craft store fragrance which quickly faded away-yet, the oils and natural glycerin in the batch of soap felt wonderful on and to our skin-and my husband had no itching and irritation when he got out of the shower.
We began to tell others about it, and I continued to study the process of making real SOAP. It wasn't long before I had soaps drying on every flat surface in the house. I found wonderful products for my soapmaking online, such as yours at Bramble Berry. When I scented my soap, it smelled wonderful.
Soon, we had a business. Over the years we have found a faithful following who use and love our soaps, and candles, which we added later. We have met and helped a vast array of people like my husband, who suffer with various types of allergy and skin problems. We have helped ease psoriasis, eczema, acne, rosacea, dryness and itching, and given new life to aging skin. What a great feeling to be able to create something that helps bring pleasure and relief to others. I have been asked repeatedly to teach soap making classes. I have not yet found the time, but hope to soon.
I have just been in the hospital and am feeling a bit down and know I should rest more, but I will have to slow down in other areas, for I must make soap! It is my passion, and it is wonderful. A nice hot bath drawn,a lavender candle burning, and a lovely, lilac colored bar of Lavendar Emu Oil Soap-now,that is living.
In this fast paced world of rushing and stressing out,a time out can be enhanced with a simple, handmade bar of real soap. I encourage everyone who hasn't tried it, to look for a soaper in your neck of the woods, and make a mad dash to their doorstep to experience natural soap. Your skin will thank you for it.
If you have contemplated trying a hand at making soap, do that as well. You will be amazed at the wonderful products you can create with your own hands..
