I was becoming discontented with just working and taking care of things at home. I felt there had to be more to life than just work. My three children were now all over the age of 18 and doing things they enjoyed and didn't need me as much as when they were in school.
Not long after these feelings were popping up, I read an article in the Sunday newspaper about a woman who made soap in her kitchen on the weekends. That article just lit me up inside. I knew I wanted to try making soap, but for some reason, it was going to be goats milk soap. I decided then and there and began looking for someone who had goats.
I found a lady not far from me who raised goats and also made soap, but not goats milk soap. I had the opportunity to meet her as well as other soapers and learned the process I would choose for soapmaking, cold-processed. I learned how to work with the goats milk and lye so it didn't turn yellow. I started learning about infused herbs and essential oils, and "The Herbal Goat" was born. My business is still at the infancy stage but is beginning to grow.
The Lord provided me with an opportunity in which to direct my creative energy at a time when I would need it more than I realized. Shortly after learning my new-found craft, my husband was transferred from Oklahoma to Arizona and my children were left behind. Had it not been for the excitement of starting my new business and working with my goats and the wonderful response I was getting from friends and strangers through word of mouth on their enthusiasm for my soaps, I don't know if I could have dealt with leaving my children behind without going through severe depression.
The excitement persists after three years creating the wonderful herbal goats milk soaps. Every morning when I climb into the shower I have a hard time trying to decide which soap I'm in the mood for, i.e., lavender, doublemint wake-up call, chamomile & aloe, patchouli with hemp oil, plus a few others. To think I used to have to use that harsh, store-bought soap and now have the creaminess of goats milk soap! If nothing else, my own personal enjoyment of using has been well worth it.
