Horrible Smell

This was my second order of BTMS 50 and this bag smells completely different than the first bag. This one has such a horrible fishy smell that is coming thru to my final product. I make shampoo bars and the recipe calls for BTMS 50. The batches I made with my first order are fine but the batches made with this latest order has a horrible fishy smell to the final product. I'm very disappointed as the only difference was a new order. I contacted customer support but was told that BTMS 50 was not recommended for shampoo bars - though all the recipes call for it. I can't sell shampoo bars that smell like this. It's absolutely horrible!

The Btms-50 Conditioning Emulsifier definitely has a distinct fishy odor, especially right out of the bag. Though we have found the smell is not noticeable in products when used at 15% of less. If you're wanting to try and make a shampoo bar without that ingredient you may like our Invigorating Shampoo Bars recipe.

Smells in Unscented Lotion

I have been using this product for years in my lotions. I've always disliked the smell when I'm making it but I never notice it in the final product until I had to use my unscented lotion. The "fishy" odor does come through because there is nothing else to mask it. Now that I've used it myself I've noticed. None of my customers have said anything and maybe I'm more intune with it because I dislike it when I make it but it is clearly there.

While the Btms-50 is easily covered with fragrance or essential oils in your product, it does have a distinct smell that can come through in unscented lotions. If you are going to use the Btms in unscented lotions you may want to keep your usage on the lower side, under 6%, to help it be less noticeable.

In love

I am in love with this product. When I first started experimenting with face creams I was using beesewax, which gave everything a heavy feeling. This stuff makes my creams so light and it absorbs super quickly. I have ordered it three times and currently have more in my cart. It is perfect!

cant get it to hold thickness

second attempt to following the conditioner recipe, and Im finding it loses its thickness and turns watery with adding the optiphen and the fragrance oil. any way to avoid that?

Tina from Bramble Berry replies...
Hi Faith! I'm sorry your conditioner is turning watery! Adding liquid ingredients, like your fragrance, definitely can thin out the conditioner by a bit. If you're wanting a thicker recipe you may need to use a higher percent of the emulsifier or Stearic Acid. Also, depending on the recipe you may find you need adjust it a bit for thickness depending on your preference. This means using less liquid oils and using more butters, etc. For more information you may find our How to Create Homemade Lotion Recipes blog post. Customer service has contacted you directly to help troubleshoot.

Couldn't be without it...

Great product at a great price! My first order of this had no smell at all but my second order of it was pretty shrimpy smelling in the bag but don't worry it doesn't smell in final product:)! I use it in my conditioner bars and body butter bars and love it! Thanks♡
