Awesome for Castile!

Yesterday I made castile soap using the Simple Castile Cold Process Soap Tutorial from the Soap Queen tutorials. I used the Sodium Lactate for hardness and also took the 20% water discount as suggested. My loaf was hard and able to be turned out of the mold in less than 24 hours! The loaf is smooth as silk and the most beautiful creamy color. The Tomato Leaf fragrance oil is herby and spot on for scent. I am a new soaper, and this is only my third loaf using different recipes each time. Thank you BB for your wonderful products, amazing recipes, and awesome tutorials!

Very Pleased

Mine was a nice yellow color, although I did just buy 1 pound. It did NOT have a chemical oder. I used it to make the simple and gentle cold process soap recipe, it turned out great. The bars were really hard and long lasting after it cured, but before it cured it was really easy to cut. Thank You BRAMBLEBERRY!!!!

I hesitated to order the large quantity of oil because of the reviews about the color. That seems silly now, I order the smaller quantities and love it. Same oil, just more of it. Yes, when I opened the pail, it was greener than I expected, but once I removed some of the oil to use, it was the very light, slightly green color you would expect for olive oil. It is just darker at first because there is a lot of oil in 35 lbs. It works well in all of my products, doesn't affect the color any more than olive oil normally does, and has no smell that you sometimes get with olive oil. Well worth the hassle of getting oil out of a bucket instead of a bottle or bag :)

Works Beautifully and Fairly Priced

This oil has worked beautifully in our soaps. I have been working hot process soaps lately, and my crock pot tends to run on the warm side. I am thankful that the oils I purchased from BB give me a little time to get my soap fragranced, colored, and in the mold and still be fairly smooth. They come out soft and need a few days to cure and we are very pleased with them, aside from the impatience of the crock pot!

Extremely Slow Curing Time - CP Soap

Question: I purchased the 35# (5 gallon) Pure Olive Oil because it saves money. However, I found that my CP Soap Loaves and sliced 1" thick bars did not cure properly, if at all. After 8 weeks of drying time, (4 weeks longer than usual), the bars were still squeezable and easy to deform. I am located in the Desert in So. Cal. and the summer temps are in the 90's in the shop. Even after the temps dropped into the low 80's/high 70's, the bars did not harden. I have not had this happen with Pure Olive Oil from the local Supermarket (Stater Bros.) and Smart & Final Wholesale Co. I hesitate to re-purchase the 5 gallon pail until I hear back from you.

Hi Michael! If your recipe is 100% olive oil, it will take a long time to cure. This is because the recipe is all soft oil, rather than a mixture of soft and hard oils like coconut oil and palm oil. This means they can take weeks to harden up enough to unmold, and even longer to cut. It can also take up to a year for them to fully cure. You can read more about that in this Roman Holiday: Olive Oil + Castile Soap Tutorial. Adding 1 tsp. of sodium lactate per pound of oils to your cooled lye water can speed up that process though! I'll be emailing you personally to discuss this issue.
