Great lotion preservative

I really like this preservative. I have never had one ounce of trouble with it except for the one time I added it to the lotion when it was too hot. Definitely follow instructions and use below 176 degrees and you will be fine. Update: I have been using Optiphen successfully for several years now and am extremely pleased with its performance. I use it in all my creams and lotions, scrubs, cold cream, mask, moisturizers, etc. My customers like that it does not have parabens in it. I wait to add it to my lotions and creams when my temp gun registers around 115 degrees- zero problems!

Great preservative!

I chose this preservative for my scrubs, as it seems to be the most natural option. It performs beautifully. I understand the factor that temperature plays in adding this preservative, but was wondering if it would still be effective if you add it at room temperature. I want to incorporate it into a whipped scrub.

not like it used to be

I have made a lot of lotion and only just recently has my lotion seperated on me. I used the same recipe as always and at first i though it was the lemon essential oil i had used that caused my lotion to seperate. So i ordered more optiphen and made another batch only this time i noticed right when i started to mix in the optiphen my lotion seperated! It started out so wonderful, but once i added this it seperated. Will not be buying this from bramble berry again. Wasted a lot of expensive oils and butters twice and all because of this stuff. Not again.

Hi Amanda! I'm sorry you're disappointed in this product. In our tests and recipes, we have found the Optiphen doesn't cause separation in lotion. It can be several other factors, including the emulsifying wax used. It also helps to stick blend the batch for another 2-4 minutes to ensure everything stays mixed together.

Excellent product

Works great in all my lotions. Has a funky floral smell by itself, but I can't smell it at all in any of my products. Love that it's free of parabens and formaldehyde. Winner!

Slight odor

This synthetic preservative has a slight odor that is noticeable. I used about 5g in the 'cool down' phase when I made my body cream (1st time making body cream. I'm a newbie.) along with the Coconut Mango fragrance oil and I can smell both the optiphen and the coconut mango fragrance. I'd much rather prefer that any preservative that I use for my next batch of body cream be odorless. If anyone can recommend another product, please do so. Thanks!!

Hi Keva!  Our Optiphen does have a slight scent to it.  Though, in our tests and recipes this scent was unnoticeable in the final product when used at .5-1.5% as seen in the Kissably Soft Lotion Recipe. I will email you personally to disucss this further.
