Project Description

This Golden Pumpkin Soap is the perfect fall project! It's scented with warm and comforting Golden Pumpkin and Cardamom Fragrance Oil.

The fragrance has notes of cinnamon, cardamom, and amber. To combat the vanilla discoloration, this recipe contains plenty of titanium dioxide pigment and Pumpkin Orange Mica. The top features lots of sparkle, thanks to Gold UltraSparkle Mica

Because of the large amount of titanium dioxide, glycerin rivers can occur - learn more about glycerin rivers here. To prevent this, we recommend placing this soap in the fridge for several hours to prevent gel phase.

Golden Pumpkin Soap Project

  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: About 5 pounds of soap

The fragrance has notes of cinnamon, cardamom, and amber. To combat the vanilla discoloration, this recipe contains plenty of titanium dioxide pigment and Pumpkin Orange Mica. The top features lots of sparkle, thanks to Gold UltraSparkle Mica

Because of the large amount of titanium dioxide, glycerin rivers can occur - learn more about glycerin rivers here. To prevent this, we recommend placing this soap in the fridge for several hours to prevent gel phase.

You will need:

Embeds:

  • Small 9 Ball Silicone Mold
  • 4 oz. LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap
  • Gold UltraSparkle Mica

Base:

  • 5 lb. Wood Mold with Sliding Bottom
  • Silicone Liner for 5 lb. Wood Mold
  • 10.8 oz. Coconut Oil (20%)
  • 10.8 oz. Palm Oil (20%)
  • 10.8 oz. Rice Brain Oil (20%)
  • 10.8 oz. Sweet Almond Oil (20%)
  • 8.1 oz. Canola Oil (15%)
  • 1.6 oz. Cocoa Butter (3%)
  • 1.1 oz. Castor Oil (2%)
  • 7.4 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
  • 16.5 oz. Distilled Water
  • 3.5 tsp. Sodium Lactate
  • 2.5 oz. Golden Pumpkin and Cardamom Fragrance Oil
  • Titanium Dioxide
  • Pumpkin Orange Mica
  • Gold UltraSparkle Mica
  • Acitvated Charcoal

Follow these steps:

MAKE THE EMBEDS

1

Chop 2 ounces of LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base into small uniform cubes. Place them in a heat-safe container and melt in the microwave using 10-15 second bursts. Once the soap is melted, add 1/4 tsp. of Gold UltraSparkle Mica and mix well. Pour the soap into the Small 9 Ball Silicone Mold. Allow it to fully harden and cool for about 1 hour. Remove from mold.

2

Repeat by chopping another 2 ounces of LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base, melting in the microwave, and adding 1/4 tsp. Gold UltraSparkle Mica. Mix well and pour into the Small 9 Ball Silicone Mold. Allow to cool and harden for about 1 hour. Unmold and set aside.

MAKE THE BASE

FRAGRANCE PREP: In a glass container, measure 2.5 ounces of Gold Pumpkin and Cardamom Fragrance Oil and set aside.

COLORANT PREP: Measure 1 tablespoon of titanium dioxide and 2 teaspoons of Pumpkin Orange Mica and set aside.
Note: If you prefer to disperse your colorants, mix the amounts above with 1 tablespoon each of lightweight liquid oil and use a mini mixer to get rid of clumps.

SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.

1

Slowly and carefully add 7.4 ounces of lye to 16.5 ounces of distilled water. Gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved. Set it aside to cool. Optional: Add 3.5 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the bars harden more quickly.

2

In a large mixing bowl, melt and combine 10.8 ounces of palm oil, 10.8 ounces of coconut oil, 10.8 ounces of rice bran oil, 8.1 ounces of canola oil, 1.6 ounces of cocoa butte,r and 1.1 ounces of castor oil (completely melt the entire container of palm oil before portioning it). Add the titanium dioxide and Pumpkin Orange Mica directly to the soaping oils and stick blend thoroughly, until there are no clumps of color - this may take longer for the titanium dioxide.

Once the lye and oils are between 100-110 degrees F, slowly add the lye water to the oils. Stick blend until you have a thin trace.

3

Add all of the measured Golden Pumpkin and Cardamom Fragrance Oil and whisk in thoroughly.

4

Once you reach a medium trace, pour half of the soap into the mold. Use a spoon to disperse the soap evenly, but don't worry about the layer being straight. Dust a thin layer of activated charcoal on top of the layer - cover the soap as much as you can, but don't make the lactivated charcoal layer too thick, or the soap layers can separate.

5

Use a spatula to "plop" the rest of the soap into the mold, being careful to not break the activated charcoal layer. Use a spoon to spread evenly, and texture as you'd like.

6

Place the embeds down the middle of the mold, keeping in mind that the ball will be the center of each bar.

7

Sprinkle UltraSparkle Gold Mica on top. Sprtiz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash. Place the soap in the fridge for 6-8 hours to avoid gel phase and glycerin rivers.

8

Allow the soap to stay in the mold for 2-3 days and cut into bars. Allow the soaps to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
