Orange Grove Soap Project

Project Description
This project features a swirled embed and piped leaves on top. The embed is cold process soap as well, so you'll need to make it 1-2 days ahead of time. Just make sure to use sodium lactate, which helps it harden and unmold more quickly.
It's scented with new Candied Citrus Fragrance Oil. The notes of lemon, honey, and eucalyptus complement the design perfectly.

Follow these steps:
MAKE THE EMBEDS
COLORANT PREP: Disperse 1 teaspoon of titanium dioxide into 1 tablespoon of sunflower or sweet almond oil (or any other liquid oil). Disperse 1 teaspoon of Sunset Orange Mica to 1 tablespoon of oil. Use a mini mixer to help get rid of any clumps. Optional: To ensure the titanium dioxide blends smoothly into the soap, we recommend micronizing it before dispersing it in oil. Use a coffee grinder to break up any clumps of color and prevent streaks of white from showing in the final soap. We like to use a coffee grinder that has a removable stainless steel mixing area for easy cleaning.
FRAGRANCE OIL PREP: In a glass container, measure 1 ounce of Candied Citrus Fragrance Oil. Set aside.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.

Slowly and carefully add 3.7 ounces of lye to 8.3 ounces of distilled water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Add 1.5 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the bars harden more quickly.

Fully melt the Lots of Lather Quick Mix until it's clear. Give the bag a good shake and measure 26 ounces into a large heat-safe container. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 130° F or below (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until thin trace.

Add the fragrance oil and 1 teaspoon of dispersed titanium dioxide. Whisk to fully combine.

Split 300 mL of soap into a separate container. This will remain white. In the main container, add 1 tablespoon of dispersed Sunset Orange Mica and whisk to combine.

If necessary, stick blend both containers until they're at a medium trace. Pour the white soap in various spots in the orange soap. Pour steadily from a high point to get the color all the way to the bottom. Run a spatula through a few times to swirl the color.

Set the Silicone Column Mold against a wall where you plan to let it harden. You don't want to move it after you pour the soap, otherwise it can come apart. Carefully pour the soap into the mold and spritz the top with alcohol to prevent soda ash. Let it harden for 1-2 days.

Unmold by pulling the 2 halves apart. Clean off any excess soap if necessary, and set aside.

Pour a thin layer of white soap into the mold. Tap the mold firmly on the counter to disperse any bubbles.

Place the embed into the mold slightly off-center. Pour in the remaining white soap. You may need to use a spoon to smooth it out and fill in any gaps. Tap the mold on the counter to get rid of bubbles.

Add 1/2 teaspoon of dispersed Green Chrome Oxide to the remaining soap and whisk to combine. Wait until it's at a medium to thick trace - it needs to have a consistency similar to pudding to hold its shape.

Cut both sides of the piping bag point diagonally to form a triangle in the center. Spoon the green soap in and pipe leaves down the length of the mold on the opposite side of the embed. Sprinkle poppy seeds on top.

Spritz the soap with 99% isopropyl alcohol to help prevent soda ash. Allow the soap to stay in the mold for 2-3 days. Unmold and cut into bars. Allow the bars to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
