Project Description

Reishi mushrooms have been used in herbal medicine for centuries. This recipe has a full 5% of water soluble reishi mushroom extract.

The Rosehip and Jojoba Quick Lotion Mix makes this face cream quick and easy to make. It's a premixed combination of oils and emulsifiers, including argan oil, jojoba oil, and squalane oil.

For this recipe, we used 18% of Rosehip and Argan Quick Lotion Mix which creates a creamy lotion perfect for dry skin. The texture is more suitable for jars. If you prefer a thinner texture, we recommend decreasing the percentage of Quick Lotion Mix. Learn how to use Lotion Quick Mixes here.

Reishi mushroom extract is well known for its use in skincare. Learn more about Rieshi mushrooms, and how they are used in skincare here.

You will need:

  • 20.2 oz. Distilled Water
  • 3.2 oz. Aloe Vera Liquid
  • 5.8 oz. Rosehip and Jojoba Quick Lotion Mix
  • 1.6 oz. Water Soluble Reishi Mushroom Extract
  • 0.3 oz. Geogard 221
  • 3 mL Natural Citrus and Sage Fragrance Oil

EQUIPMENT PREP: Disinfect your utensils by dipping them in a 5% bleach water solution and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, your stick blender, your jars and lids, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your cream. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible.

Follow these steps:

1

In a large heat-safe container, add 20.2 ounces of distilled water. Heat in a double boiler or in the microwave using 30-60 second bursts until the mixture is about 160-180° F. Add 3.2 ounces of aloe vera liquid.

2

In a separate heat-safe container, add 5.8 ounces of Rosehip and Jojoba Quick Lotion Mix. Heat in a double boiler or in the microwave using on 30-60 second bursts until the mixture is about 160-180° F.

3

Check the temperature of both containers. Each one should be about 160° F. Reheat if necessary. When they’re ready, tap your stick blender on the bottom of the bowl to release bubbles. Pour the Quick Lotion Mix into the water mixture and begin pulsing the stick blender. Blend the mixture for 60-90 seconds, making sure the oil and water phases are fully emulsified. Scrape the Quick Mix bowl to make sure you got every bit into the water.

4

Continue stick blending until the temperature drops to about 130-140° F. Add 1.6 ounces of Reishi mushroom extract, 3mL of Natural Citrus and Sage Fragrance Oil and 0.3 ounces of Geogard. Stick blend for another 60-90 seconds to fully combine.

5

Pour or spoon the cream into the containers. Allow the containers to sit with the cap off for several hours to prevent condensation. Screw on the tops and enjoy!
