No More Packing Peanuts!

We're thrilled to announce we're no longer using packing peanuts! Your Bramble Berry orders now have recycled paper instead.

Customers have been asking us for a peanut alternative - they want something that's better for the environment and less messy. Since then, we've been on the hunt for an option that's cost-effective and efficient. We also need packing materials that fill large spaces.

"We have a limited number of box sizes, and our products are all over the map," said Neil, Bramble Berry shipping lead. He's been in charge of finding a peanut alternative.

For instance, if we ship 7 pounds of sweet almond oil, it has to be placed upright in a large box. If the jug is on its side, it's more likely to leak. That leaves the rest of the box to be filled. Traditionally, peanuts kept the jug in place and also prevented items from running into each other and breaking.

After experimenting, Neil and the shipping team found that the paper actually fills more void than peanuts because they settle or crumble in the boxes. That means you'll be getting crumpled sheets of paper you can reuse in your orders, rather than tons of peanuts. For our shipping team, it also means less time cleaning after a shift.

As with any major change, Neil was worried about the new machines slowing down warehouse operations. However, that hasn't been the case.

"My team is adapting really well - we've barely noticed a difference, and we're only getting better," he said. "I expect us to be at an even greater efficiency level within weeks."

We will still be using gray foam packaging. It's the most effective way to keep glass from breaking, especially when it's packed with other items. As always, we'll keep an eye out for other options. Neil is looking for alternatives now.

He's excited for customers to start seeing the paper in their boxes. He made it a mission to find a better option.

“I’m really stoked about it,” Neil said. "I want every order to feel like you're opening a gift."
