The recipe features the beauty of natural colorants and the calming scent of Rosemary Essential Oil

The custom skin-loving blend of oils creates hard bars with a rich lather. Be careful to not over stick blend, as this hard recipe will thicken quickly. We recommend using sodium lactate for easy unmolding. Placing the mold onto a heating pad for several hours will also aid in unmolding, and make the natural colorants more vibrant.

Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
  • Rosemary Essential Oil - 1.75 oz
  • Green Chrome Oxide Pigment - 1 oz
  • Titanium Dioxide Pigment - 1 oz
  • Rice Bran Oil - 1 lb
  • Coconut Oil - 1 lb
  • Palm Oil - 1 lb
  • Olive Oil - Pure - 1 lb
  • Sodium Hydroxide Lye
  • Sodium Lactate - 1 oz
EQUIPMENT:
  • 4 Cavity Classic Leaf Silicone Mold - 1 mold
  • Free Resources Card for Cold Process

Instructions

You will need:

  • 4 Cavity Classic Leaf Silicone Mold (x2)
  • 6 oz Coconut Oil
  • 5.5 oz Olive Oil
  • 5.5 oz Rice Bran Oil
  • 5 oz Palm Oil
  • 3.15 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
  • 7.05 oz. Distilled Water
  • 1 tsp. Sodium Lactate
  • 1 oz. Rosemary Essential Oil
  • Titanium Dioxide
  • Green Oxide Pigment

ESSENTIAL OIL PREP: Measure 1 ounce of Rosemary Essential Oil into a glass container and set aside.

COLORANT PREP: In separate containers, mix 1 teaspoon of titanium dioxide and 1 teaspoon of green oxide pigment with 1 tablespoon of a lightweight liquid oil. Use a mini mixer to combine the colorants with the oil and get rid of clumps. Set aside.

SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.

Follow these steps:

1

Slowly and carefully add 3.15 ounces of lye to 7.05 ounces of distilled water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Add 1 teaspoon of sodium lactate to help the bars harden more quickly.

2

Measure out your oils and combine them in a large mixing bowl, microwave until your oils are completely melted and you see no cloudiness. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 100-120° F or below (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until you reach a thin trace.

3

Pour a quarter of your soap into a separate container. In the larger container, add all of your dispersed titanium dioxide. To the smaller container, add half of your green colorant. Whisk in colorants completely.

4

Add the Rosemary Essential Oil to both containers. Whisk in thoroughly.

5

Slowly pour your green soap into your larger container of white soap using the in the pot swirl method. Pour in a clockwise direction, alternating the height of your pours as you go. You can use the handle of your spatula or a skewer to swirl the two colors together even more, but don’t stir too much to avoid losing your beautiful swirl design.

6

Pour the soap into each cavity of the 4 Cavity Classic Leaf Silicone Molds. Tap the molds on the counter to help the soap settle. Spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash. Place the mold on top of a heating pad set to medium heat for 1-2 hours. If you live in a cold climate, cover and insulate with a small box.

7

Allow the soap to harden in the mold for 2-3 days. Release your eight bars from the molds and allow to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
