Cranberry Cocktail Soap Project

Project Description
Who doesn’t love a traditional green and red color palette for the holidays? This soap is scented with Wild Cranberry and Aspen Fragrance Oil, which is a festive mix of tart cranberries, sweet orange, and juniper. For a modern touch, it features a diagonal line design. Your friends and family will love getting this perfectly-balanced bar!
It's an advanced recipe that requires a little extra prep. First, embeds are created in the Small 9 Ball Silicone Mold with LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base and Merlot Sparkle Color Block. Once they're completely cool and hard, it's time to make the cold process base. To give yourself plenty of time, we recommend adding the fragrance right before you start pouring the soap.
Half of the green soap is used to create the middle diagonal layer, while the other half is used to create the leaves on top. Don't worry about your piping skills - the leaves are easy to create using a standard piping bag. All you need to do is cut a small triangle into the tip of the bag and wait for the soap to become thick enough to hold its shape.

- 4 oz. LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap
- Merlot Sparkle Color Block
- Red Mica
- Base:
- 5 lb. Wood Mold with Sliding Bottom
- Silicone Liner for 5 lb. Wood Mold
- 2.9 oz. Avocado Butter (5%)
- 8.7 oz. Avocado Oil (15%)
- 15.6 oz. Olive Oil (27%)
- 1.7 oz. Castor Oil (3%)
- 14.5 oz. Palm Oil (25%)
- 14.5 Coconut Oil (25%)
- 8.2 oz. Lye
- 18.2 oz. Distilled Water
- 3.5 tsp. Sodium Lactate (optional)
- 3 oz. Wild Cranberry and Aspen Fragrance Oil
- Titanium Dioxide
- Merlot Sparkle Mica
- Green Chrome Oxide Pigment
- Cranberry Seeds
Follow these steps:
MAKE THE EMBEDS

Chop 4 ounces of LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base into small uniform cubes. Place them in a heat-safe container along with a chunk of Merlot Sparkle Color Block. Melt in the microwave using 10-15 second bursts.

Pour the soap into the Small 9 Ball Silicone Mold. Allow it to fully harden and cool for about 1 hour. Remove the embeds from the mold and reheat the remaining soap. Pour the rest into the mold and allow to cool and harden for about 1 hour. Unmold and set aside.
MAKE THE BASE
FRAGRANCE PREP: In a glass container, measure 3 ounces of Wild Cranberry and Aspen Fragrance Oil and set aside.
COLORANT PREP: Disperse 3 teaspoons of titanium dioxide into a small container along with 3 tablespoons of lightweight liquid oil. In a separate small continer, disperse 2 teaspoons of Merlot Sparkle Mica with 2 tablespoons lightweight liquid oil. Finally, mix 1 teaspoon Green Chrome Oxide Pigment with 1 tablespoon lightweight liquid oil. Use a mini mixer to get rid of clumps. Have the cranberry seeds nearby.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.

Slowly and carefully add 8.2 ounces of lye to 18.2 ounces of distilled water. Gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved. Set it aside to cool. Optional: Add 3.5 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the bars harden more quickly.

Measure and melt 2.9 ounces of avocado butter, 8.7 ounces of avocado oil, 15.6 ounces of olive oil, 1.7 ounces of castor oil, 14.5 ounces of coconut oil, and 14.5 ounces of palm oil (remember to fully melt the palm oil before measuring). Once the lye water and oils around 100-120° F (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until the mixture reaches a thin trace.

Split off 30 ounces of soap into a separate container. Add 2 tablespoons of dispersed Merlot Sparkle Mica and whisk. Add a proportionate amount of Wild Cranberry and Aspen Fragrance Oil (it's okay to eyeball it) and whisk thoroughly.

Prop up one side of the mold to create an angle - we used a scale and a towel for stability. Stick blend the red soap using short bursts until it reaches a light-medium trace. It should be thin enough to pour without holding its shape, but thick enough to support a layer on top. Pour all of the red soap into the mold to create the first layer and set aside.

Split off 18 ounces of soap into a separate container and whisk in 1/2 teaspoon of dispersed Green Chrome Oxide Pigment. Pour in a proportionate amount of fragrance oil and whisk. The soap should be a thin-medium trace. If it's still extremely thin, pulse with the stick blender quickly to thicken. Then, pour a thin layer of soap into the mold - just enough to completely cover the red layer. Set the remaining green soap aside for the leaves.

To the remaining soap, add 3 tablespoons of dispersed titanium dioixde and the remaining fragrance oil. Whisk thoroughly. Check the consistency of the green layer - it needs to be firm enough to support the white soap. Once it's ready, carefully pour or spoon the white soap on top of the green. Remove the mold from its angle when necessary and continue pouring the white soap into the mold.

Check the consistency of the remaining green soap. It needs to be thick enough to hold a shape, but thin enough to pipe. Stick blend to thicken if necessary. Cut both sides of the piping bag point diagonally to form a triangle in the center. Spoon the green soap in the piping bag and pipe leaves down the length of the mold, with the base of the leaf in the center.

Place the red sphere embeds in the middle of the soap. Keep in mind how thick you'd like each bar to be when cut, and place accordingly. Sprinkle the top with cranberry seeds.

Spritz the soap with 99% ispropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash. Allow the soap to sit in the mold for 2-3 days and then remove. Allow the bars to cure for 4-6 weeks and enjoy!
