Hemp and Wildflower Soap Project

Project Description
Dried flowers are a beautiful addition to bath and beauty products. They quickly and easily add color, texture, and a touch of nature. These cold process soap bars are adorned with pomegranate flowers, calendula petals, and pink cornflower petals. Wildflower Breeze Fragrance Oil adds airy and sweet notes.
This recipe has no palm oil. The combination of coconut oil, cocoa butter, and hemp butter adds firmness. Olive oil pomace creates a firmer bar than regular olive oil, making it a good option for palm-free recipes. But if you only have regular olive oil on hand, that will work as well.
You will need:
- 6 Cavity Silicone Square Mold
- 5 oz. Olive Oil Pomace (33%)
- 5 oz. Coconut Oil (33%)
- 1.5 oz. Hemp Butter (10%)
- 2.3 oz. Sunflower Oil (15%)
- 0.9 oz. Cocoa Butter (6%)
- 0.5 oz. Castor Oil (3%)
- 2.1 oz. Lye
- 4.7 oz. Distilled Water
- 0.7 oz. Wildflower Breeze Fragrance Oil
- 1/4 tsp. Green Chrome Oxide Pigment
- Pomegranate Flowers
- Calendula Petals
- Pink Cornflower Petals
COLORANT PREP: Disperse 1 teaspoon of Green Chrome Oxide Pigment into 1 tablespoon of lightweight liquid oil (such as sweet almond or sunflower oil). Use a mini mixer to blend and get rid of clumps. Set aside.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.
Follow these steps:

Slowly and carefully add 2.1 ounces of lye to 4.7 ounces of distilled water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Stir in 1 teaspoon of sodium lactate to help the soap harden and unmold more quickly.

Melt and measure 1.5 ounces of hemp butter, 5 ounces of olive oil pomace, 0.9 ounces of cocoa butter, 5 ounces of coconut oil, 2.3 ounces of sunflower oil, and 0.5 ounces of castor oil in a large heat-safe container.

Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 100-120° F, add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until thin trace.

Add 1/4 teaspoon of Green Chrome Oxide Pigment into the soap and whisk thoroughly.

Add 0.7 ounces of Wildflower Breeze Fragrance Oil and whisk in completely. If the batter is still extremely thin, pulse quickly with the stick blender.

Pour the soap into each mold cavity, and tap on the counter to help it settle. Use a small spoon to spread soap in each cavity and create texture. Once you're happy with the top, place pomegranate flowers, calendula petals, and pink cornflower petals on top of each one.

Spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash. If you live in a very cool area, cover and insulate the soap. You can also place it on a heating pad for about 1 hour.

Allow the soap to stay in the mold for about 3-4 days. Unmold and allow the soap to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
