Lemon Bar Fragrance Oil is a sweet, tart, and buttery fragrance that smells just like the real thing. It inspired this cold process soap project - the layers resemble the crust and filling of a lemon bar, and titanium dioxide looks like powdered sugar on top.
Lemon Bar Fragrance Oil does discolor to a light tan. This isn't a concern for the brown layer, but it does affect the yellow layer. A touch of titanium dioxide helps combat this and retain more of the yellow color. But keep in mind, the bars will slightly discolor. We think the delicious smell of the fragrance is completely worth it!

Lemon Bar Soap Project
These bars look and smell good enough to eat!
12 Bar Silicone Square Mold
2.1 oz. Mango Butter (5%)
16.8 oz. Olive Oil (40%)
10.5 oz. Palm Oil (25%)
10.5 oz. Coconut Oil (25%)
2.1 oz. Jojoba Oil (5%)
5.8 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
11.7 oz. Distilled Water (10% water discount)
2.5 oz. Lemon Bar Fragrance Oil
COLOR PREP: Disperse 3 teaspoons of Yellow Mica into 2 tablespoons of sunflower or sweet almond oil (or any other liquid oil). Then in separate containers, disperse 1 teaspoon of brown oxide and 1 teaspoon of titanium dioxide into 1 tablespoon of oil. Use a mini mixer to get rid of any clumps. Have the titanium dioxide powder and a powder duster/fine mesh strainer nearby to dust on top.
FRAGRANCE OIL PREP: Measure 2.5 ounces of Lemon Bar Fragrance Oil into a glass container. Set aside.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.
Slowly and carefully add 5.8 ounces of lye to 11.7 ounces of distilled water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Stir in 2.5 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the soap harden and unmold more quickly.
Melt and measure 2.1 ounces of mango butter, 16.8 ounces of olive oil, 10.5 ounces of palm oil, 10.5 ounces of coconut oil, and 2.1 ounces of jojoba oil in a large heat-safe container (remember to fully melt the palm oil before measuring). Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 100-110° F or below, add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until thin trace.
Add all of the 2.5 ounces of Lemon Bar Fragrance Oil to the soap and whisk thoroughly.
Split off about 450 mL of soap into a separate container and mix in 1/4 teaspoon of dispersed brown oxide with a whisk.
To the remaining soap, add all of the dispersed Yellow Mica and 1 heaping teaspoon of titanium dioxide. Whisk the colorants thoroughly.
Check the consistency of the brown soap. If it's still very thin, pulse with the stick blender to thicken to a medium trace. Then pour or spoon a thin layer of brown soap into each cavity of the 12 Bar Square Silicone Mold. Tap the mold on the counter to help get rid of bubbles and create even layers.
Check the consistency of the yellow soap. If it's still extremely thin, pulse with the stick blender to reach a medium trace. Then, carefully pour or spoon the batter into each cavity. Be careful to not break through into the brown layer. Continue until each cavity is completely full of soap.
Use a spoon to give the top of the soap a little bit of texture. If it's not holding a shape, allow it to sit in the mold for a few minutes to thicken slightly.
Once you're happy with the top, place a few teaspoons of titanium dioxide into the powder duster or fine mesh strainer. Dust a small amount of titanium dioxide onto each bar.
Spray the top with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash. If you live in a cool climate, place the silicone mold on a heating pad set to medium for 1-2 hours.
Allow the soap to harden in the mold for 2-3 days. Unmold, and allow to cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
