Project Description

This soap features layers, swirls, and embeds to create a bright and beautiful design. It's made with Peach Prosecco Fragrance Oil.

This recipe is inspired by Peach Prosecco Fragrance Oil. With notes of peach nectar, orange, prosecco, and mango, it's the perfect complement to the peachy color of this soap. Because it features several different techniques including layers, swirls, and embeds, this is a project for an advanced soap maker.

Super sparkly, fruity, and colorful, these soaps are a great party favor. They would also be a real show-stopper at your next craft fair! Both the Fine Silver Rainbow EcoGlitter and Gold Bursting Beads are biodegradable, so you can feel good about the beautiful sparkle on top of these bars.

We formulated this recipe with a 10% water discount to help reduce the chance of glycerin rivers. They're more likely in this project because it contains a large amount of titanium dioxide. To be extra careful, you may want to place this soap in the fridge or freezer for several hours if you live in a very hot climate. Learn more about glycerin rivers in this article

You will need:

  • Embed:
  • Medium 9 Ball Silicone Mold
  • 8 oz. LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • About 1/16th tsp. Sunset Orange Mica
  • About 1/16th tsp. Magenta Mica
  • About 1/16th tsp. Super Pearly White Mica
  • About 3/4 tsp. Fine Silver Rainbow EcoGlitter
  • Base:
  • 5 lb. Wood Mold with Sliding Bottom
  • Silicone Liner for 5 lb. Wood Mold
  • 54 oz. Swirl Quick Mix
  • 7.4 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
  • 15 oz. Distilled Water
  • 2.5 oz. Peach Prosecco Fragrance Oil
  • 2 tsp. Titanium Dioxide
  • 1/2 tsp. Sunset Orange Mica
  • 1/2 tsp. Tangerine Wow! Colorant
  • 1/2 tsp. Magenta Mica
  • Gold Bursting Beads
  • Fine Silver Rainbow EcoGlitter

Follow these steps:

MAKE THE EMBEDS

1

Chop 8 ounces of LCP Clear Melt & Pour Soap into small, uniform peices. Place them in a heat-safe container and melt in the microwave using 10-15 second bursts.

2

Add about 1/16 teaspoon of the Sunset Orange Mica, Magenta Mica, and Super Pearly White Mica to the melted soap. Then, add about 3/4 teaspoon of Fine Silver Rainbow EcoGlitter. Note: The Gold Iridescent EcoGlitter previously used in this project was discontinued. It has been replaced with Fine Silver Rainbow EcoGlitter.

Use a spoon to stir until all the clumps of mica are gone. Tip: Spraying the soap with 99% isopropyl alcohol can help break up the clumps of mica.

3

Carefully pour the soap into the Medium 9 Ball Silicone Mold - there will be some left over. Spray the top with 99% isopropyl alcohol to get rid of bubbles. Allow to fully cool and harden for about 1 hour. Once the soaps have fully cooled and hardened, release from the mold.

Reheat the leftover soap in the microwave using 5-10 second bursts and pour into the mold cavities. Allow them to cool and harden and remove from the mold. Set all the embeds aside.

4

Allow the soap to fully cool and harden - this will take about an hour. Unmold and set aside.

MAKE THE BASE

COLORANT PREP: In separate containers, disperse 1/2 teaspoon of Magenta Mica and 1/2 teaspoon of teaspoon of Tangerine Wow! Colorant into 1/2 tablespoon of a lightweight liquid oil (like sweet almond or sunflower). Then, disperse 1 teaspoon of Sunset Orange Mica into 1 tablespoon lightweight liquid oil. Use a mini Mixer to get rid of clumps. Set aside.
Optional: To ensure the titanium dioxide blends smoothly into the soap batter, we recommend micronizing it before dispersing it in oil. Use a coffee grinder to break up any clumps of color and prevent streaks of white from showing in the final soap. We like to use a coffee grinder that has a removable stainless steel mixing area for easy cleaning.

SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your soaping space. Always soap in a well-ventilated area.

1

Slowly and carefully add 7.4 ounces of lye to 15 ounces of distilled water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. If you’d like a harder bar of soap that releases faster from the mold, you can add sodium lactate to the cooled lye water. Use 1 teaspoon of sodium lactate per pound of oils in the recipe. For this recipe, you’d add 3.5 teaspoons sodium lactate.

2

Fully melt the entire bag of Swirl Quick Mix until it’s completely clear. Shake the bag to mix up all the oils. Measure 54 ounces into a large container. Add 2 teaspoons of titanium dioxide directly to the oils and use the stick blender to thoroughly incorporate.

Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 120° F or below (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend the mixture to a thin trace.

3

Add 2.5 ounces of Peach Prosecco Fragrance Oil to the soap and use a whisk to thoroughly incorporate.

4

Split off 30 ounces of soap into a separate container. Add 2 teaspoons of dispersed Sunset Orange Mica, 1/2 teaspoon of dispersed Magenta Mica, and 1/2 teaspoon of dispersed Tangerine Wow! Colorant. Use a whisk to fully mix. Note: At this point, the soap should still be a thin trace. You don't want it to have any trailings, but it does need to thicken in the mold to support the layer above. If necessary, mix with few quick bursts of the stick blender.

5

Pour the soap into the mold, leaving a small amount left over for the swirl in the top layer - about 5-7 ounces. Tap the mold on the counter to help get rid of bubbles. Allow the soap in the mold to harden. This will take several minutes. Whisk the white soap periodically to keep it fluid.

6

Test the layer of orange soap in the mold by gently wiggling it. It needs to be firm enough to support the soap on top. The firmer the bottom layer is, the straighter the layer will be.

Once the orange soap is firm enough, pour the remaining orange soap into various areas of the container of white soap and stir a few times to create a swirl.

7

Very carefully, pour the soap into the mold on top of the orange layer. Tip: It can help to start pouring in one corner and allow the soap to flood the bottom.

8

Allow the soap to harden for several minutes. Use a spoon to create texture toward the center. Carefully place the embeds in the center of the soap all the way down the length of the mold.

9

Sprinkle Fine Silver Rainbow EcoGlitter and Gold Bursting Beads on top of the soap until you're happy with the look. Spray the soap with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash. If you live in a very hot climate, place the soap in the fridge to prevent glycerin rivers.

10

Allow the soap to harden in the mold for 2-3 days. Unmold, and cut into bars. Allow the soap to cure for 4-6 weeks before use. Enjoy!
