Triple Butter Mango Soap Project

  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: About 3 pounds of soap

It's made with Coconut Mango Fragrance Oil, which is a sweet mix of pineapple, mango, apple, and coconut. The bars are topped with marigold and pink cornflower petals.

The Triple Butter Quick Mix makes ultra-luxe cold process bars. The mix of shea, mango, and cocoa butter leaves your skin feeling smooth. It’s also palm free! Find all our soap making Quick Mixes here.

You will need:

  • 10" Silicone Loaf Mold
  • 33 oz. Triple Butter Quick Mix
  • 4.4 oz. Sodium Hydroxide Lye
  • 9.8 oz. Distilled Water
  • 2 tsp. Sodium Lactate (optional)
  • 1.75 oz. Coconut Mango Fragrance Oil
  • Green Chrome Oxide Pigment
  • Hot Pink Mica
  • Sunset Orange
  • Yellow Mica
  • Marigold Petals
  • Pink Cornflower Petals

Follow these steps:

FRAGRANCE PREP: In a glass container, measure 1.75 ounces of Cococnut Mango Fragrance Oil and set aside.

COLORANT PREP: Measure 1 teaspoon of Sunset Orange Mica, Hot Pink Mica, Yellow Mica, and Green Chrome Oxide Pigment into separate small containers. Add 1 tablespoon of lightweight liquid oil (like sunflower or sweet almond) to each and use a mini mixer to get rid of clumps.

SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.

1

Slowly and carefully add 4.4 ounces of lye to 9.8 ounces of distilled water. Gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved. Set it aside to cool. Optional: Add 2 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the bars harden more quickly.

2

Fully melt the entire bag of Triple Butter Quick Mix until it’s completely clear. Shake well and measure 33 ounces into your soaping bowl. Once the lye and oils are between 100-120° F, slowly add the lye water to the oils. Blend until you have a thin trace.

3

Add all of the Coconut Mango Fragrance Oil and whisk to combine.

4

Split the soap into 4 containers. Add the following amounts of color to each and whisk thoroughly.

  • Container A (200 mL): 1 teaspoon dispersed Green Chrome Oxide Pigment
  • Container (400 mL): 2 teaspoons dispersed Hot Pink Mica
  • Container (400 mL): 2 teaspoons dispersed Sunset Orange Mica
  • Container (400 mL): 1/2 teaspoon dispersed Sunset Orange Mica + 2 teaspoons dispersed Yellow Mica

5

If the soap batter is still thin, stick blend the green until it's a medium trace. Pour all the green soap into the mold, concentrating it into one corner. Use a spoon to smooth the soap.

6

Gently pour the pink soap on top of the green and use a spoon to smooth it out. Follow by layering the orange and then the yellow soap into the mold. Gently tap on the counter to get rid of bubbles.

7

Create texture on top using a small spoon. Sprinkle pink cornflower petals and marigold petals on top until you're happy with the look. Spray with 99% isopropyl alcohol to prevent soda ash.

8

To help create more vibrant colors, we recommend placing the mold on a heating pad set to medium-high for 1-2 hours. Allow the soap to stay in the mold for 2-3 days, cut into bars, and then cure for 4-6 weeks. Enjoy!
