Okay lather

I've used this base a few times for body washes, and for the most part it's good. The lather is light, but better than I expected for a castile base. It is very thin, though; I have to use salt to thicken it and I've thrown out quite a few batches as a result! Also, floral essential oils separate (just FYI). Citrus and herbal EOs did fine.

I just received mine

When i first opened the bottle i thought it smelled great, but after i used it i found that it does leave a bad odor on my skin, I used several different essential oils and the results were the same. I can't imagine washing my entire body with this soap, i feel like it would make me smell bad.

other uses!

I used it in my emulsified scrub, with the fresh mango FO from bramble berry. it was very nice and my family loved the smile. but I am wondering if I can use that base as a shampoo. olive oil is very great for the hair as well as the skin ^_^

Nice soap, but smells bad...

Brambleberry has consistently provided good products, but this liquid soap smells like rancid olive oil. I bought this to use in my emulsified scrub. The yucky smell completely overpowered the essential oils. Plus, after rinsing hands clean, my skin smelled like rancid oil. Bummer.

Hi Melissa! I'm sorry you were disappointed in this base. I can assure you that it is not rancid! While castile soaps do have a distinctive smell because of all that olive oil we found it was easily covered by fragrance or essential oils.

I am thinking about selling this base, how would you go about labeling it? Does it fall under the Soap label?

Hi Maria! For liquid soap you would generally follow the rules as you would for Cold Process soap. You can see how to do that in our How to Label Cold Process Soap blog post. There are 2 ways to label your soap, one is the final soap, which is the saponfied, unsaponfied oils and any additives. This is what we chose to use for our liquid soap. This means that you could label yours just as ours is on the product page, with the addition to any color or fragrance you use!
