Project Description

Made with champagne extract and Rose Gold Fragrance Oil, this lightweight lotion keeps skin hydrated.

This lightweight lotion is made with Rose Gold Fragrance Oil, Rose Gold Mica, and champagne extract. Rose Gold Fragrance Oil gives the lotion a sweet and complex scent with notes of raspberry, cashmere musk, and vanilla.

Rose Gold Mica adds a light pink hue. In our tests, we found it doesn't transfer to the skin. You can use less or no mica if you prefer.

The oils in this recipe are very lightweight, which creates a thinner lotion. If you prefer a thicker product, you can experiment with decreasing the amount of water. You can also introduce a thickener, like stearic acid. Learn more about creating your own lotion recipes in this article.

Rose Gold and Champagne Lotion Project

  • Skill Level: Intermediate
  • Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: About five 8 oz. bottles

You will need:

  • Five 8 oz. Bottles
  • 30.6 oz. Distilled Water (80%)
  • 2.4 oz. Champagne Extract (6%)
  • 2.4 oz. Sweet Almond Oil (6%)
  • 2.4 oz. Emulsifying Wax (6%)
  • 0.4 oz. Rose Gold Fragrance Oil (about 1%)
  • 0.4 oz. Optiphen (1%)
  • 1/2 tsp. Rose Gold Mica

EQUIPMENT PREP: Disinfect your utensils by dipping them in a 5% bleach water solution and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, your stick blender, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your lotion. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible.

Follow these steps:

1

In a large heat-safe container, add 30.6 ounces of distilled water. Heat in the microwave until the water is about 160° F.

2

In a separate heat-safe container, combine 2.4 ounces sweet almond oil, 2.4 ounces of champagne extract, and 2.4 ounces of emulsifying wax. Heat the mixture in the microwave on 30-60 second bursts until the wax is fully melted and the mixture is about 180° F.

3

Check the temperature of both containers - each one should be about 160°-180° F. When they’re ready, tap your stick blender on the bottom of the bowl to release bubbles. Pour the oils and wax into the water and begin pulsing the stick blender. Blend the mixture for 60-90 seconds, making sure the oil and water are fully emulsified. Periodically scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula.

4

Continue stick blending until the temperature drops to about 130°-140° F. Add 0.4 ounces of Rose Gold Fragrance Oil and 0.4 ounces of Optiphen. Stick blend for another 60-90 seconds to fully combine.

5

Add 1/2 teaspoon of Rose Gold Mica and stick blend until completely incorporated.

6

Use a funnel or a steady hand to pour the lotion into the containers.

7

Allow the containers to sit with the cap off for several hours to prevent condensation. Screw on the tops and enjoy!
