Kiva is a nonprofit that helps facilitate loans for people all over the world. First, a borrower applies for a loan. After it's approved, it's posted to Kiva's website. People browsing the site can then fund some or all of the loan they choose. After they're repaid, lenders can fund new loans, donate the money, or withdraw it. Learn more about the process here.
You can fund a variety of categories, including agriculture, education, livestock, and arts. For instance, Amanda in El Salvador needed a loan of $700 to buy snacks and drinks to sell in her store. Pauline in Tonga needed $850 to buy mulberry for her tapa-making business. You can loan to people in the US too - Theresa in Milwaukee asked for $6,500 to buy supplies for her DIY bath and body business.
Bramble Berry CEO and Founder Anne-Marie specifically chose Kiva for our 20th anniversary donations. It's a cause that means a lot to her. One of the reasons she started Bramble Berry in 1999 was to help other women open their own businesses. Now, 20 years later, that's still one of our main goals.
“Running Bramble Berry has been a unique gift with many challenges but even more opportunities and joys,” she said. “Being self-employed feels like a gift in and of itself, and the ability to help other women entrepreneurs all over the world is a dream come true.”
Thank you to everyone who purchased the Anniversary Collection! Share what you make with #BrambleOn and #BrambleBerry20th.
