Espresso Martini Candle Project
This simple yet sophisticated Espresso Martini candle looks (and smells) like the real thing! It's scented with the new Espresso Martini Fragrance Oil, a modern twist on our classic Espresso Fragrance Oil.
We used a mix of orange and charcoal dye flakes to achieve this rich brown shade and topped it off with a layer of uncolored coconut soy candle wax to resemble foam. Like all container candles, for best performance, burn for 1 to 2 hours on the first burn to allow a full burn pool and prevent tunneling in future burns.
What You Need:
Instructions
You will need:
- 2 Clear Diamond Glass Jar
- 20 oz. Coconut Soy Candle Wax
- 1.6 oz. Espresso Martini Fragrance Oil
- 2 CD-20 Wicks
- 2 Wick Stickers
- Melon Orange Dye Flakes
- Charcoal Dye Flakes
Follow these steps:
1
Place a half-filled pot of water on the stove, bring it to a low simmer, and nest a pouring pitcher or other heat-safe container inside. Add 20 ounces of Coconut Soy Candle Wax and and allow to melt.
2
Weigh out 1.2-1.6 ounces of Espresso Martini Fragrance Oil into a glass container. Once the wax reaches 185-190° F, remove it from the heat and slowly stir in the fragrance for 1-2 minutes to fully incorporate. Set aside until it cools to 150° F.
Secure the wicks to the bottom of each container using a wick sticker. Stabilize the wicks using popsicle sticks or clothespins.
3
Set aside approximately 2 ounces of Coconut Soy Candle Wax for your “foam.” You’ll leave this wax uncolored.
4
To achieve a rich brown shade for the rest of your wax, add 1/2 teaspoon of Melon Orange Dye Flakes and ⅛-1/4 teaspoon of Charcoal Dye Flakes. Stir thoroughly to melt all of the wax flakes fully. Swatch your wax color on a white cutting board or sheet of paper to ensure you get the perfect shade of warm brown for your candle. If you desire a deeper brown, add slowly (you can always add more but can’t take it out.)
5
Once you’re happy with the color, stir in your fragrance for 1-2 minutes to fully incorporate. Make sure to save some of the fragrance for your uncolored “white” foam for the top layer of the candle. Tip: Don’t add the white layer fragrance yet in case you need to heat that wax again in the microwave or the water bath.
6
Carefully pour your brown wax into the prepped jars. Once your brown layer has cooled for 30-60 minutes and has a thick ‘skin’ that will hold another layer of wax, reheat your remaining uncolored wax until it reaches 135F-150F degrees.
7
Ensure that the brown layer is hard enough to sustain a second layer, and pour your fragranced top white “foam” layer at 135 degrees.
Allow the candles to cool and cure for 48 hours before burning. For the first burn, ensure the wax pool melts to the edges of the container (this usually takes 1 to 2 hours). This helps future burns burn evenly and fully.
Trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting, and enjoy!
