The Luxe Hair Mask Base makes creating your own hair mask easy! It can be customized with fragrance and additives depending on your hair type.

It was formulated by Marie of Humblebee and Me - learn more about Marie here. In this video, Marie shows you how to customize the base depending on your hair type. For dry hair, we recommend adding an oil-based extract, while fine/oily hair may prefer a water-based extract. For curly hair, we added the Curl Enhance Water Soluble Extract to give curls strength.

All three recipes produce a batch of 100 grams, which is the perfect amount to test. In the "Instruction" tab, you'll find the three recipes for dry, oily/fine, and curly hair types. The "Add All Items to Cart" button will add the ingredients for all three - simply remove the items from your cart that you don't need.

Then, pick out how you'd like to package your hair mask! We have plenty of packaging options to choose from - click here to shop packaging. We love the look of glass jars, but recommend storing them outside of the shower.

  • Water Soluble Oat Extract - 1 oz
  • Bubble Boost - CAPB - 1 lb
  • Curl Enhance Water Soluble Extract - 1 oz

Instructions

You will need:

Dry Hair Mask:

  • 96.5 g. Luxe Hair Mask Base (96.5%)
  • 3 g. Calendula Extract (3%)
  • 0.5 g. Apple Sage Fragrance Oil (0.5%)

Oily/Fine Hair Mask:

  • 95 g. Luxe Hair Mask Base (95%)
  • 2.5 g. Oat Water Soluble Extract (2.5%)
  • 2 g. Bubble Boost - CAPB (2%)
  • 0.5 g. Apple Sage Fragrance Oil (0.5%)

Curly Hair Mask:

  • 95 g. Luxe Hair Mask Base
  • 4.5 g. Curl Enhance Water Soluble Extract (4.5%)
  • 0.5 g. Apple Sage Fragrance Oil (0.5%)

EQUIPMENT PREP: Disinfect your utensils by dipping them in a 5% bleach water solution and allowing to dry. This includes mixing containers, your stick blender, and any spoons or spatulas that may come in contact with your hair mask. Your products must be as free of germs, bacteria, and microbes as possible.

Follow these steps:

1

In a small container, measure out the appropriate amount of Luxe Hair Mask base, according to your recipe of choice.

NOTE: You can mix ingredients into the Luxe Hair Mask Base unheated, or you can gently heat the base to create a thinner texture. The thinner texture can make incorporating certain ingredients easier. If heating the base, be careful to not heat above 140 degrees F to prevent damaging the preservative.

2

In a separate small container, measure out your additives (extracts, surfactants, and fragrance) according to your recipe of choice.

3

Add the additives to the hair mask base, and combine thoroughly.

4

Package hair mask in the packaging of your choice. If the base was heated, allow for it to fully cool before using.

5

To use, apply to clean, wet hair in the shower for 5-10 minutes and rinse out. For extremely dry hair, you can use the mask as a treatment mask - apply to dry hair and wrap in a warm towel for 15-20 minutes. Rinse out in the shower.
