Peppermint Swirl Soap Project
Get in the holiday spirit with this festive soap project! These swirly bars transport us to sipping a cozy cup of peppermint hot cocoa by a crackling fire, topped with whipped cream and little candy cane chunks.
Peppermint Cocoa Fragrance Oil smells just like a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha, with rich chocolate notes that are balanced by fresh peppermint notes. And the best part? It has very minimal discoloration and behaves wonderfully in CP. We used a special blend of oils to get this gorgeous wispy swirl design. If you’re familiar with our Swirl Recipe Quick Mix, but are looking for something palm-free, this is a perfect recipe.

- 4 oz. LCP Clear Melt and Pour Base
Base:
- 10" Silicone Loaf Mold
- 6 oz Sodium Hydroxide Lye
- 13.65 oz Distilled Water
- 6.75 oz. Coconut Oil
- 11.25 oz. Canola Oil, High Oleic
- 11.25 oz. Olive Oil - Pure
- 9 oz. Shea Butter
- 6.75 oz. Rice Bran Oil
- 2.5 oz. Peppermint Cocoa Fragrance Oil
- Tangerine Wow! Colorant
- Electric Bubble Gum Colorant
- Brick Red Oxide Pigment
- Titanium Dioxide
- Frosting bag & frositng tip
- Optional: Cocoa Powder
Follow these steps:
MAKE THE EMBEDS
1
Chop 4 ounces of LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap. Separate the pieces into two heat-safe containers. Melt in the microwave using 10 second bursts. To one container, add shavings of Perfect Red Color Block. To the second container, add ¼ teaspoon titanium dioxide (pre-dispersed in a splash of isopropyl alcohol). Stir thoroughly until you have a deep red color and a creamy white color.
2
Grab any small rectangle silicone mold you have on hand, a silicone ice cube tray would also work. Begin pouring very thin layers of each color, alternating between each color for a candy cane look. Spray plenty of isopropyl alcohol in between each layer to make sure they stick. You should have between 5 and 7 layers total. Once the embed soap has cooled, remove from the mold and chop into tiny pieces. Set these to the side, you will sprinkle them on top of the soap at the end.
MAKE THE BASE
COLOR PREP: In one container, measure 1 tsp Tangerine Wow + ½ tsp Electric Bubblegum + ½ tsp Brick Red Oxide. Disperse this mixture in 2 tbsp of lightweight oil. In another container, disperse 2 tsp of titanium dioxide in 2 tbsp of lightweight oil.
FRAGRANCE PREP: Measure 2.5 ounces of Peppermint Cocoa Fragrance Oil into a glass container. Set aside.
TOOL PREP: Have a frosting bag and tip prepped nearby. You’ll need this to pipe on your “whipped cream soap” later.
SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.
1
Slowly and carefully add 6 ounces of lye to 13.65 ounces of water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Add 2 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the bars harden more quickly.
2
Measure and combine 6.75 ounces of Coconut Oil, 11.25 ounces of Canola Oil, 11.25 ounces of Olive Oil, 9 ounces of Shea Butter, and 6.75 ounces of Rice Bran Oil. Melt in the microwave in a large heat-safe bowl using 60-second bursts. Once the lye water and the oils have cooled to 100-120° F or below (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until you reach a thin trace.
3
Add all of your fragrance to the uncolored soap. Separate your batter into 3 containers, pour 3 cups of batter into each of the first two containers and the remainder of the batter into the last container for the frosting. In container #1, add all of your dispersed Perfect Red Blend to container 1. In container #2, add half of your dispersed Titanium Dioxide (be sure to save half of the titanium dioxide for your frosting later). Whisk to evenly distribute the colors.
4
Using the same large bowl from step 2, begin alternating pouring small amounts of the red and white soap down the side of the bowl, creating a bullseye (see the YouTube video for a visual).
5
Once all of the red and white soap is layered in the bowl, pour your bullseye swirl directly into the mold. Pour from different heights to achieve a swirlier look. Spray with isopropyl alcohol when you’re done.
6
Grab the third container of batter you set aside earlier for frosting and add the dispersed titanium dioxide. Stir to combine then stick blend until you reach a thick frosting consistency that can hold its shape when piped. You can also leave your frosting on the counter to thicken further if you’re not happy with the consistency after stick blending.
7
Carefully fill your pre-prepped piping bag with frosting. Begin piping rows across the top of your soap, adding more rows on top until you’re happy with the shape.
8
(Optional) Carefully sprinkle cocoa powder or brown mica on top for an extra festive touch. Sprinkle on your chopped candy cane melt and pour embeds across the top. Spray with 99% isopropyl alcohol to avoid soda ash. Allow the soap to harden for 3-4 days before unmolding. Unmold, cut into bars, and allow to cure for 4-6 weeks.Enjoy!
