Rose Clay and Charcoal Spa Bars
These simple bars are packed with skin-loving ingredients like shea, rose clay, and charcoal. They are scented with Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil, making this project both budget-friendly and all-natural.
The white and rose-colored soaps are swirled together in each mold cavity on top of a layer of solid charcoal-gray. When swirling melt and pour, it's important to keep an eye on the temperature of the soap bases. If the soap is too hot, the white and orange soap will mix completely. We recommend pouring the soap into the mold when the bases are around 120-130 degrees F.
What You Need:
Recipe
INGREDIENTS:
- Rose Clay - 1 oz
- Activated Charcoal - 1 oz
- Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil - 1.75 oz
- SFIC Shea Melt And Pour Soap Base - 1 lb
EQUIPMENT:
- 12 Bar Round Silicone Mold - 1 Mold
Instructions
You will need:
- 12 Cavity Circle Silicone Mold
- 48 oz. Shea Melt and Pour Soap Base
- 1 oz. Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil
- Rose Clay
- Charcoal
- 99% Isopropyl Alcohol in a Spray Bottle
Follow these steps:
1
For your first layer, melt 26 ounces of melt and pour base. Disperse 1 tsp of rose clay in 1 tbsp of isopropyl alcohol while you’re waiting. This helps prevent any clumps, giving you a smooth color.
2
Once your soap is melted, add .5 ounces of essential oil, being sure to stir thoroughly. Essential oils when they're not fully incorporated into your soap base can eat your molds or pockmark them.
3
Separate your melted soap into two equal parts (13 ounces). Add your dispersed rose clay to one container, and leave the other uncolored.
4
Double pour both colors into the mold at the same time for a swirl design. If you want your swirls to be more blended and wispy, pour close to 120 degrees. If you want more defined, separated swirls, pour closer to 100 degrees. You can also take a skewer and swirl your colors together even more.
5
For the second layer, chop up 22 ounces of shea melt and pour base into small, uniform cubes. Melt in the microwave while dispersing 1 tsp of charcoal in 1 tbsp of alcohol.
6
Add .5 ounces of your essential oil and be sure to stir thoroughly until combined.
7
Liberally spray more alcohol on your first layer to help the second layer stick. Make sure your soap is no hotter than 125 degrees, or you risk breaking the layer below. Fill each cavity all the way to the top.
8
Spray the top again with alcohol. Your spa bars will be ready to unmold after 4-6 hours. Be sure to wrap these bars in plastic wrap to prevent glycerine dew/sweating. Enjoy!
