This fun and fresh salsa soap looks (and smells) good enough to eat!

The star of this project is Salsa Verde Fragrance Oil, which smells just like fresh salsa — tomatoes, cilantro, and bright green chiles wrapped up in one garden-fresh scent. The base is a solid green, finished with melt and pour salsa and tortilla chips sprinkled on top.

Instructions

You will need:

Embeds:

  • LCP White Melt and Pour Soap
  • Perfect Red Color Block
  • Hunter Green Mica
  • Orange Peel Powder
  • 10 inch Silicone Mold
  • 33 oz Basic Quick Mix
  • Sodium Hydroxide Lye
  • Sodium lactate
  • Distilled Water
  • 1.75 oz Salsa Verde Fragrance Oil
  • 10 inch Silicone Loaf Mold

Follow these steps:

MAKE THE EMBEDS

1

Begin by melting 4 oz of white melt and pour soap. Add a chunk of red color block and stir to combine. Pour in a thin layer at the bottom of the loaf mold. You can place the mold in the fridge to help it harden faster. Once cooled but still slightly flexible, remove the thin layer of red soap from the mold and set aside. Clean the mold to prepare it for the next color.

2

Melt 4 oz of white melt and pour soap and leave it uncolored. Pour into a thin layer at the bottom of the mold and let cool before unmolding.

3

Repeat this process for the two other colors: green and tan (orange peel powder). By the end, you should have four thin rectangular slabs of melt and pour soap in four colors: red, green, white, and tan.

4

For the green, red, and white soap (our “salsa”) cut each rectangle into thin, long strips (about ¼ to ½ inch wide). Set half of the strips aside, these will be embedded into our bar of soap later. Chop the other half of strips into tiny cubes to create our “salsa.” Mix the tri-colored cubes and set aside.

5

For the “tortilla chips”, chop the tan rectangle into small triangles. Set these aside to place on top with the “salsa” at the end.

MAKE THE BASE

SAFETY FIRST: Suit up for safe handling practices. That means goggles, gloves, and long sleeves. Make sure kids, pets, other distractions, and tripping hazards are out of the house or don’t have access to your space. Always make soap in a well-ventilated area.

1

Slowly and carefully add 4.7 ounces of lye to 10.5 ounces of water and gently stir until the lye has fully dissolved and the liquid is clear. Set aside to cool. Optional: Add 2 teaspoons of sodium lactate to help the bars harden more quickly.

2

Fully melt the bag of Quick Mix, shake thoroughly to combine, and measure out 33 ounces into a large mixing bowl.

3

Add 1/2 tsp of Hunter Green Mica directly into your oils. Stick blend to fully and evenly disperse the colorant.

4

Once the lye water and the colored quick mix has cooled to 120° F or below (and are ideally within 10 degrees of each other), add the lye water to the oils and stick blend until you reach a thin trace.

5

Add the entire bottle of Salsa Verde Fragrance Oil and whisk to combine.

6

Pour about ⅓ of your soap batter into the bottom of the mold. Sprinkle the long thin strips you cut earlier into the mold vertically (be sure to save the little “salsa” cubes for the end!)

7

Continue pouring the soap into the mold and sprinkling in the long strips. Once all of the soap is in the mold, tap on the counter to release air bubbles let it sit for a few minutes to thicken up.

8

Once the soap has thickened, use a fork or spoon to add texture to the top of the soap. Then, sprinkle the tri-color “salsa” soap you chopped up earlier on top randomly. Once you’re happy with the salsa, evenly space the “tortilla chip” embeds across the top. We recommend spacing them about 1 inch apart so that each cut bar will have a chip on top.

9

Place the soap on a heat pad to help the colors pop. Unmold after 48 hours, cut, and enjoy!
