Savannah from Simply Soaped Co. started her soap making journey in 2023 and hasn't look back since! She loves to experiment with different swirl techniques and color palettes, taking inspiration from nature and popular culture. Meet Savannah!

How long have you been making bath and body products, and what led you to create your business?
My soap making journey began in 2023, and from the very first batch, I knew I’d found something special. The science behind saponification completely captivated me—it feels like a tiny chemistry experiment each time I create a new batch. What truly pulled me in, was the creative freedom: selecting simple, nourishing ingredients, experimenting with colors and designs, and discovering unique scent combinations. It’s a process that’s both playful and deeply fulfilling. Sharing this passion with others is such a joy. There’s something really meaningful about helping people take their self-care routines to the next level, one handmade bar at a time.

What sets your products apart, what makes them unique?
Simply Soaped Co is truly a reflection of me, every step of the way. I pour my heart into each batch—literally! As a one-woman business, I handle everything from selecting the ingredients to hand-pouring and cutting every bar. The cold process method allows me to keep things simple and preserve the natural goodness of the ingredients, and each bar is carefully cured for 4-6 weeks. It’s a slower, more intentional process, but it’s what makes each bar feel special and unique. For me, it’s all about quality and care.

Where do you find your creative inspiration?
Inspiration is everywhere for me—nature, art, color palettes, and even the textures and patterns I encounter in everyday life can spark a new idea for a soap design or scent blend. I love finding beauty in the little things and letting that guide my creativity. It’s the perfect way to stay inspired and keep the process fresh and exciting.

What has been your biggest challenge to navigate as a small business owner?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced as a small business owner is wearing so many hats. I’m the maker, the marketer, the customer service rep, the accountant, and then some—all in one. On top of working a full time job. While I love the creative side of things, it can be tough to juggle everything. It’s a constant balancing act, but each challenge teaches me something new. Over time, I’ve learned to embrace the process and remind myself that the small steps forward are worth celebrating.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting a small business?
If you’re thinking about starting your own soap business from home, my biggest piece of advice is: don’t wait for everything to be perfect—just start. Do your research—read books, watch videos, and there are some great resources online, like Bramble Berry’s informational articles. For me, I’m a visual learner, so I found watching tutorials and seeing things in action really helpful. It’s all about taking that first step and learning as you go. I’ll never forget my first batch of soap—it was a simple lavender soap. I focused on getting the basics right, like lye safety and understanding the chemistry of saponification. That foundation gave me the confidence to keep going and experiment more. Starting with something simple allowed me to ease into the process, and it felt so rewarding to see that first bar come to life, successfully. I could tell right away that soapmaking was going to be something I’d stick with—it was like finding my creative outlet, and it just clicked.

What other makers do you admire, and what do you like about their work?
There are so many talented makers in the soap world, but Katie Carson from Royalty Soaps truly sparked something in me early on. I remember binge-watching her videos and feeling this mix of excitement and calm—like I’d found exactly what I was supposed to be doing. Her joy was so contagious, and seeing someone genuinely love what they do so openly made me believe I could build something meaningful too.

What dreams do you have for Simply Soaped Co.?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I’d love to see my soaps on the shelves of local shops, connecting with more people in my community. One day, I hope this will be my full-time job, where I can focus entirely on creating and growing the business. It’s such an exciting thought, and every day I’m one step closer to making that dream a reality. Knowing I’m building something meaningful, one bar at a time, feels incredibly fulfilling.
