Can You Use Essential Oils in Melt and Pour Soap?

Yes! Essential Oils are a great choice for Melt and Pour soaps. Melt and pour is a ready-to-use base, which makes it simple to incorporate essential oils for scent. We carry over 30 Essential Oils that work especially well in MP and provide strong, bright fragrances.

Add your essential oil after the base is fully melted and has cooled slightly, stir well, and pour immediately. Adding fragrance or essential oils too early while the base is still very hot can weaken the scent.

For melt and pour, watch the usage rate. A starting point of 0.3 ounces per pound of soap base is recommended. Always check the IFRA certificate for your specific oil, as every essential oil has its own safe skin usage rate. Adding too much can cause skin irritation or, if the oil isn't fully incorporated, separation in the finished bar. Measure by weight rather than drops, since essential oils vary in density and drops are an unreliable measurement.
