All About Hemp Products

You can tell when something is made with hemp oil right away. It has a lightweight and moisturizing consistency, and it’s packed with all the fatty acids your skin loves.

We have several ways for you to enjoy it! You can add hemp oil or butter to your recipes, or give one of our exclusive new bases a try.

Hemp oil and butter

Natural hemp seed oil
We've had this customer favorite for years now! Like all oils, it helps moisturize and soften the skin. But what sets hemp seed oil apart is its unique fatty acid profile. It's especially high in linoleic acid, which helps lock in moisture.

Hemp considered a lightweight oil, meaning it absorbs into the skin quickly and doesn't feel too heavy or greasy. Keep in mind, it does have a natural green color and a nutty scent. That can affect your finished product.

The shelf life is 1 year. The usage rates are:

• Cold process soap: 1-15%
• Lotions and creams: 1-10%
• Balms: 1-10%

Hemp butter
This has all the same benefits as hemp seed oil in solid form! That includes the same lightweight consistency, which means you can use it on its own as a balm. Unlike cocoa or shea butter, hemp butter is soft and spreadable at room temperature. 

It has a natural green color and a more earthy scent than the oil.

The shelf life is 1 year. The usage rates are:

• Cold process soap: 1-12%
• Lotions and creams: 1-5%
• Balms: 1-100%

Hemp bases

Hemp Lotion Base
If you have sensitive skin, this base is for you. Along with hemp seed oil, it has soothing ingredients like aloe concentrate and calendula extract. It has a medium weight consistency that's perfect for the body.

You can use this lotion straight out of the bottle, or mix in your favorite fragrance or color. Our lotion bases can also accept up to 5% additional oil, extract, or silicones. Water-based products like hydrosols don't need more emulsifier, but they will thin the lotion.

The base is easy to work with! Just heat the it to around 140° F, pour in the additives, and stick blend for several minutes to fully incorporate.

Hemp Body Balm Base
Balms, on the other hand, are perfect for extra dry skin. This one is made with hemp oil, coconut oil, fractionated coconut oil, and beeswax. The result is a soft but spreadable consistency that you can put in a tin or tube.

The balm feels amazing on elbows and hands especially, but you can slather it anywhere you need extra moisture. Like other hemp products, it does have a natural green color.

Use it right out of the jar, or microwave on 10 second bursts and then mix in your additives of choice. 

Hemp Lip Balm Base
Compared to the body balm, this base is a little more firm. It has more beeswax for staying power, as well as coconut oil, hemp oil, avocado oil, and sweet almond oil. The green color is a bit more subtle too.

It feels super hydrating on the lips. You can also use it as a body balm or a solid perfume - it's up to you!

Just melt it in a heat-safe container, mix in flavor oil and lip-safe color, and pour into containers. 

Hemp Melt and Pour Soap Base
Hemp oil can be used for more than just moisturizers! It's added to this base, along with other goodies like coconut and olive oil. It leaves your skin feeling clean but still soft.

The base is easy too use too! Just chop it into small pieces, heat, mix in additives, and pour into a mold.

CBD Products

Although we don’t sell CBD products, they definitely deserve a mention along with the other hemp products.

Cannabidiol (also known as CBD) is a molecule found in cannabis and hemp plants. It's gaining popularity around the US, especially in skincare. In DIY bath and body products, CBD oil can add soothing and moisturizing properties. It's thought to be great for those with sensitive or extra dry skin.

If you’re interested in using CBD in your bath and beauty products, there are a few things to consider.

The products that CBD is typically used in are leave-on products. This gives the CBD time to absorb into your skin. These kinds of products include lotaions, butters, serums, balms, salves, oils, and sprays.

You also have to think about the kind of CBD you’re going to use. If the CBD is a tincture, ensure it's entirely oil-based. Many will be a MCT oil tincture, which is similar to fractionated coconut oil. Make sure all the ingredients are oil if you want to use it in a product that is made up of entirely oils and butters. These include balms, body oils, and body butters. If it contains other ingredients like water, it won't mix into oil-based products. 

Another thing to consider is the color, smell, and texture of the oil you choose. Many have a dark green color and a green, earthy scent that will transfer to your products. Just how much will vary depending on the CBD and how much you use.
