Maker of the Month: BRWNSGR Skin

Jasmine from BRWNSGR Skin started making bath and body products seven years ago while searching for a natural solution to help her brother's eczema. What began as a homemade lavender and tea tree body butter grew into a thriving skincare brand. Meet Jasmine!

How long have you been making bath and body products, and what led you to create your business?
I’ve been making bath and body products for about 7 years now. I originally started because my brother struggled his whole life with eczema and my family always avoided strong creams like steroids. I did research for so long to find what could work and ended up making my Lavender and Tea Tree body butter that healed his eczema. What started as me experimenting at home quickly turned into a real passion for formulating. I fell in love with the process of creating products from scratch and seeing how confident and happy people felt using them. Over time, BRWNSGR Skin grew from a small hobby into a full business and community that I’m incredibly proud of.
What sets your products apart, what makes them unique?

I think what makes Brwnsgr Skincare unique is the balance between luxury, comfort, and education. I really focus on creating products that feel indulgent but are still approachable and affordable. Hydration is always a huge priority for me, especially because dry skin is something my entire family and so many other people struggle with. I also love creating nostalgic scents that feel comforting and memorable while still making the products perform really well like baby powder for example. That has always been my top seller. Transparency is important to me too, so I love educating customers about ingredients and the formulation process rather than just selling a product

Where do you find inspiration?
Honestly, inspiration comes from everywhere. A lot of it comes from scents, desserts (I love baking too) coffee shops, and perfumes. I'm very inspired by soft, cozy, luxurious experiences overall and I try to translate that feeling into my products and branding. I also love to cater to my audience so sometimes I’ll just straight up ask them what they want!

What has been your biggest challenge to navigate as a small business owner?
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to wear so many hats at once. As a small business owner, I’m not just making products. I’m also handling marketing, customer service, content creation, inventory, photography, website updates, shipping, and so much more. Balancing all of those things while still staying creative can definitely be overwhelming at times.

What is your favorite part of the creative process?
My favorite part is definitely the formulation stage. I love testing different ingredient combinations and seeing how small changes can completely transform the texture or feel of a product. There’s something so rewarding about having an idea in your head and then watching it come to life from scratch.

What other makers do you admire, and what do you like about their work?
I truly admire Tara Lee. I think she is such a hidden gem of knowledge. I have a love for sharing formulations just as much as she does, if anything she has more! She was the reason I started this business and now I’m at the point where we talk often enough despite being across the world from each other. I never would have thought making skincare products would introduce me to such amazing creators like Tara who are just as passionate as me.

What are your dreams for BRWNSGR Skin? Where would you like to see your business in 5 or 10 years?
I would love to see Brwnsgr Skincare continue growing into a well recognized beauty and lifestyle brand while still keeping the heart of what made people connect with it in the first place. Education is also a huge passion of mine, so I’d love to continue expanding the educational side of my business and helping more makers learn how to formulate and build their own brands.

What are three of your must-have Bramble Berry products, and why do you love them?

One of my must haves is definitely the Shea Butter because it creates such rich, nourishing products and works beautifully in body butters. I also love the fragrance oils because they’re strong, unique, and really help bring creative ideas to life. Another favorite would be two combined Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil and Tea Tree Essential Oil because those are the main essential oils that cured my brothers eczema.
