Project Description

These Monster Mash bars are both cute and creepy - perfect for Halloween!

The base of the soap is created with Luxury Rebatch Soap Base, and the eyeballs are made with melt and pour. The eyeballs need to be created first, so plan accordingly. We recommend giving yourself a few hours for the eyeballs, to layer and allow two batches to cool.

If you've never made rebatch soap before, the process involves slowly melting the rebatch cubes in a double boiler, crock-pot, or on the stove. It melts down to a thick, gloopy texture - similar to mashed potatoes. It's the perfect texture for these little monsters! Learn more about rebatch soap here.

You will need:

Base:

  • 10" Silicone Loaf Mold
  • 42 oz. Luxury Rebatch Soap
  • About 4 oz. Distilled Water
  • 1 oz. Sparkling Apple Blossom Fragrance Oil
  • 0.5 oz. Sugar and Spice Fragrance Oil
  • Kermit Green Mica
  • Black Oxide

Eyeball Embeds:

  • Sall 9 Ball Silicone Mold
  • LCP White Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base
  • Kermit Green Color Block
  • Black Oxide Color Block
  • Droppers

Follow these steps:

MAKE THE EMBEDS

1

Chop 8 ounces of LCP Clear Melt and Pour Soap Base and melt in the microwave using 15-20 second bursts. Once melted, split into two containers. To one, add a small chunk of Black Oxide Color Block, and to the other add a small chunk of the Kermit Green Color Block. Stir to promote melting, and place back in the microwave and heat using 5-10 second bursts if necessary.

2

Once fully melted, use the dropper to drop a small amount of black soap into the Small 9 Ball Silicone Mold. Work quickly as the soap will cool in the dropper. Spritz with 99% isopropyl alcohol to pop any bubbles. Allow to cool slighty. Once the black layer has cooled slightly, use the dropper to create a layer of green in each cavity. Spritz with alcohol and allow to cool.
TIP: Have a cup of hot water nearby to clear the dropper as neccessary.

3

Chop 8 ounces of LCP White Melt and Pour Soap Base and melt slowly in the microwave using 20 second bursts. Once fully melted, allow the soap to cool to about 130 degrees. Spritz the green layers with alcohol and carefully pour the white soap into the mold, fully each to the top. Allow to cool and harden completely.

4

Remove each "eyeball" from the mold, and repeat the process by gently reheating the soaps using 10-15 second bursts. Once you have about 8 sets of eyes, move on to making the base.

MAKE THE BASE

FRAGRANCE PREP: Mix 1 ounce of Sparkling Apple Blossom Fragrance Oil and 0.5 ounces of Sugar and Spice Fragrance Oil into a glass, fragrance oil safe container. Set aside.

COLOR PREP: In separate containers, mix 1 teaspoon Black Oxide and 1 teaspoon Kermit Green Mica with 1 tablespoon lightweight liquid oil - such as sunflower oil, sweet almond, or avocado. Use a mini mixer to get rid of clumps and set aside.

1

Place 42 ounces of Luxury Rebatch Soap into your melting vessel and turn the heat to low. Add about 2 ounces of distilled water and cover to begin the melting process. Depending on your melting method (double boiler, crock-pot, etc), the time it takes to melt the soap will vary. If using a double boiler or directly on the stove, your soap will melt quicker and will need to be checked and stirred more often to prevent burning. If using a crock-pot, it will need more time to melt.

2

Every 2-10 minutes (depending on your melting method) check on the soap. Stir and add more distilled water to the mixture if necessary.

3

Once the soap is smooth and looks like thick mashed potatoes, add all of the fragrance blend. Stir well. Turn the heat off.

4

Split the soap into two containers - one container will contain about 28 ounces of soap, and the other will contain about 14. You can weigh it out, or eyeball it. To the larger container, add 1 teaspoon of dispersed black oxide. To the other container, add 2 teaspoons of dispersed Kermit Green Mica. Stir in quickly.

5

Working quickly, transfer half of the black soap into the mold. Tap on the counter to help disperse evenly, but don't worry about it being perfect. Then add all of the green soap on top of the black, followed by the remaining black soap. Firmly tap on the counter to help the layers adhere. Use gloved hands to gently press the top of the soap to help smooth the top.

6

Insert the eyeball embeds into the top of the soap, placing them so there are two eyeballs per bar.

7

Allow the soap to fully cool and harden in the mold overnight, or up to 2 days. Cut into bars.

8

The soap is ready to use right away, but letting it cure for 2 weeks creates harder bars that last longer in the shower. We recommend it for the best results. Enjoy!
