Charitable Giving in 2023

We believe that giving back to the community, both locally and globally, is a vital part of our business. After all, without community, Bramble Berry wouldn’t exist. Each year, we try to make sure that we give back to worthy causes that make a big difference from a small scale, to a national scale, to a global scale.

We have big plans for 2023, too! Here are some of the great organizations that we plan to support in 2023.

Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is an organization that seeks to reduce the gender gap in the computer sciences, starting with girls as young as 3! You might not know that the gender gap in computer sciences has actually grown since 1995. Girls Who Code hopes to address this gap by offering free after school clubs for girls as early as the 3rd grade, plus summer programs. They also offer college and career programs for young women. Through all of this, they’ve taught more than 500,000 women and girls. Part of our mission is to support women in business, and supporting this organization is just one way that we help to make that a reality.

We will be donating $1 per purchase of our 10 inch Silicone Loaf Mold to Girls Who Code from March 1st through the year of 2023.

Charity : water

Charity: Water Logo

Charity : water is an organization that works to support community-led efforts to provide clean drinking water to communities in need around the world. These water projects end up being community owned, and are directed by local experts who understand the climate, geography, and culture and how to create water projects that will be the most useful to the community. Charity:water is also dedicated to transparency, letting you know what water projects they’ve supported and where, so you know where your donations are going.

Through their work, they’ve served more than 15 million people with clean water across 29 countries. Clean water is vital to the health and success of these communities.

Center for Natural Lands Management

Center for Natural Lands Management Logo

The Center for Natural Lands Management is an organization dedicated to protecting and managing species in danger and their habitats. This includes not just supporting dozens of nature preserves along the west coast, but also monitoring, application of scientific principles in their conservation efforts, and providing restoration and other interventions to maintain species and habitats.

The CNLM also employes experts in these species, monitoring, wildfire prevention, weed management, and the propagation of native plants. They also work to restore salmon habitat in Washington State.
A dollar from each purchase from our upcoming Desert Romance collection will be donated to these two charities.

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is an organization that provides support to LGBTQIA youth all over the country. Their mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ youth. Statistics show that one accepting adult can decrease the risk of suicide by up to 40% for young LGBTQ people, who are more than 4 times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers.

The Trevor Project offers support by phone, web, or text, as well as an online space where LGBTQ youth can find more people like themselves to connect with. They’re also involved with education and advocacy for LGBTQ rights. They also conduct research on the threats to this population and how to better serve them.

Throughout June, $1 from the purchase of any colorant will be donated to the Trevor Project.

The Crown Act - The Legal Defense Fund

A study by researchers at Duke University found that participants viewed natural Black hairstyles as less professional. The study also found that Black women with natural hairstyles were less likely to be hired. As many as 80% of Black women felt they needed to change their hairstyle to align with more conservative standards to fit in at their workplace. Even children are subject to hair discrimination, with perfectly normal hairstyles banned in dress and grooming codes at their schools.

The CROWN Act is a piece of legislation that prevents race-based hair discrimination. The CROWN Act is law in only 13 states, meaning that in 37 states, it is legal to discriminate against natural hairstyles for BIPOC people.

The Legal Defense Fund seeks to end hair discrimination by using the legal system to fight against these discriminatory policies, and by helping individuals who have experienced race-based hair discrimination in court.

In August, we’ll give $1 from every purchase from our upcoming hair care line to The Legal Defense Fund to help in their fight against hair discrimination.

While these are our big plans for 2023, we’ll also be giving to other organizations, big and small, global and local, throughout the year. We hope you’ll join us for a whole new year of giving back.
