Description

Pure Olive Oil  - Great for advanced recipes such as 6 – 12 color swirls because it allows more time to work with the batter vs. using Pomace Olive Oil.

Pure Olive Oil is a blend of extra virgin and refined grade “A” olive oil.

Olive oil gives a rich feel and helps to create a very hard bar once fully cured. Used in the making of Castile soap (both liquid and bar).

INCI: Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil

Extremely Slow Curing Time - CP Soap
Question: I purchased the 35# (5 gallon) Pure Olive Oil because it saves money. However, I found that my CP Soap Loaves and sliced 1" thick bars did not cure properly, if at all. After 8 weeks of drying time, (4 weeks longer than usual), the bars were still squeezable and easy to deform. I am located in the Desert in So. Cal. and the summer temps are in the 90's in the shop. Even after the temps dropped into the low 80's/high 70's, the bars did not harden. I have not had this happen with Pure Olive Oil from the local Supermarket (Stater Bros.) and Smart & Final Wholesale Co. I hesitate to re-purchase the 5 gallon pail until I hear back from you.

Hi Michael! If your recipe is 100% olive oil, it will take a long time to cure. This is because the recipe is all soft oil, rather than a mixture of soft and hard oils like coconut oil and palm oil. This means they can take weeks to harden up enough to unmold, and even longer to cut. It can also take up to a year for them to fully cure. You can read more about that in this Roman Holiday: Olive Oil + Castile Soap Tutorial. Adding 1 tsp. of sodium lactate per pound of oils to your cooled lye water can speed up that process though! I'll be emailing you personally to discuss this issue.

green oil
I also received green, murky olive oil in my last shipment. I am somewhat new to cp soap making, but when i added my ultramarine blue oxide the final color came out green also.

Hi Deb! I'm sorry this product wasn't your favorite. Depending on batch variation, this olive oil can appear more greenish yellow. Also, adding blue color to yellow-colored oils can create a green color. To avoid this, you can use whiter oils, such as coconut oil, palm oil or sweet almond oil. I'll be emailing you personally to help troubleshoot!

Works great in CP
I've used this multiple times in CP soap and it works great for me. I've used it in the lots of lather recipe and a couple others. The end color, without adding colorants, is a creamy, slightly yellow color but it's beautiful to me and easy to alter to whatever color you want.

Same as below comment ~ Why is this round of Pure Olive Oil green and opaque?
Have ordered this same product in the past from BrambleBerry and it was great - translucent and looked like olive oil you cook with. The shipment that just arrived is murky and green. Is it due to the cold weather? Or did I receive Pomace by mistake?

Reply from Bramble Berry
Hi Mike! Your Olive Oil is perfectly fine :). The reason why it is green is because it is cold. Once heated, it will return to the translucent color. I will be in contact with you to answer any additional questions.

Not sure what to make of this oil
I'm used to olive oil that is light yellow in color and liquid at room temperature. This oil looks more like a butter to me. It is semi-solid and green. Did Brambleberry send me the right product, or is this something else?

Reply from Bramble Berry
Hi Nancy! The reason the olive oil is more of a green hue, is because it is cool. Once heated, it will return to the light yellow color you are used to. I will be emailing you to answer any additional questions.
